Florissant Fossil Beds NM

Let’s start with a little bit of etymology just for fun…

Florissant was named after Florissant, MO, the hometown of Judge James Castello, an early settler. BUT what’s kind of cool about the name is that it means blooming/flourishing in French. AND the national monument of full of beautiful flowers…

The visitor center was closed due to Covid, but they had a table set up outside where I saw some fossils. The coolest part was the Petrified Forest Loop, which takes you around the petrified redwood stumps, and the wet meadows on Boulder Creek Trail.
