I had never heard of it and my friends who live there decided I needed to bring one home to try, but I got sick that day and the pie eventually went bad without me trying. I guess I’ll have to go back to try the tarte al d’jote (and visit my friends again) next time I’m in Belgium.
That thing can’t be bad. It’s full of cheese. Need I say more? Why yes I do! That pie is a real big deal in Nivelles. They even have a fraternity that ranks the pies from one to five. Bakeries work hard to keep their standing. The city hosts a ceremony in February to announce the winners.
In the meantime, I’ll take you on a brief tour of the city as my friends took me to the Collegiate Church of Saint Gertrude. The church is a Wallonia classified building and is pretty well-known in Belgium. We’ll also pass by the courthouse and the main park La Dodaine.
