Oregon: road trip around John Day

From Portland to John Day and back…

We went on a mini road trip in Oregon and headed toward John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. This post contains photographs of our trip there and our trip back. The photographs of the park will be own a separate post.

We saw really cool stuff on the way to the park. Once there, were were told by a park ranger not to go on a long hike because of incoming thunderstorm. I’m so glad we didn’t. On our way to the city of John Day, we experienced what may very well have been the biggest hail/thunderstorm that I had ever seen. It was so bad that I had to pull over because I really couldn’t see the road anymore. I was not the only one. We then passed through a small village that partially flooded. Pretty impressive stuff! Once we arrived in John Day, we went out for dinner and saw the very people who had stopped on the road next to us. They were from the area and said they had never seen anything like it either.
