It’s been a little while since I took these pictures. About a month to be exact. I took them somewhere in Southern Belgium, where coal mining was a major industry during the first half of the last century.
This coal mine has been closed since 1969 and had operated from 1916. You can learn a little bit more about it here. It has an interesting history. This particular coal mine is part of a bigger group that was owned by Société des Charbonnages du Gouffre. This one was the 10th and last one to open.
