And who would have thought… the tallest boat lift in the world is… Belgian!
I gotta say I was pretty impressed. This boat lift was built in a region that’s often called out by the rest of the country for not doing their part in contributing to the economy. It seems to me that this project alone is proof that they can pull anything off they want. The construction took twenty years and was finished in 2002. This new boat lift bypasses 4 other smaller ones and allows to lift vessels up to 1,350 tons. The other boats lifts are the only ones in the world still in use and are classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
