I just got back to San Francisco last night after two weeks in Europe -one week in Spain and one week in Belgium. While there, I went on a few explorations with my friends Aurélie and Sébastien. Here is the first one I’d like the share with you.
According to Atlas Obscura, “Power Plant IM was originally built in 1921 and when it was finished, it was one of the largest coal burning power plants in Belgium.” The plant closed in 2007 after a protest led by Greenpeace to shut it down. Being the main power plant for the area, it produced over 10 percent of the CO2 emissions in Belgium. Not so great… Here are the pictures I took of the cooling tower:
