The Anise Swallowtail

It took a while to be able to understand the difference between the Western Tiger Swallowtail and the Anise Swallowtail, but I think I finally figured it out.

The following photos were taken at Milagra Ridge in Pacifica a week ago. The Anise Swallowtail is very recognizable thanks to its black and yellow pattern. It also has dark patches on its forewings, which the Western Tiger Swallowtail doesn’t have.

FYI, here is a great article about all kinds of different Swallowtails if you’d like to learn more about them.
